What’s going on guys, I have returned! It’s been a bit of a hiatus as I have been dealing with some headaches but I hope that you are all well and healthy. Now that flu season is upon us and there’s been a bit of a bug going around with scratchy throats, runny noses, fever and other flu symptoms, I wanted to share my recent recipe to help fight these pathogens! It’s so, so delicious and will amp up your immune system in no time.

Ingredients: Celery, carrots, onions, ginger, garlic (not shown above), turmeric, parsley, mushrooms and sesame oil.

Step One: In a heavy bottom nonstick pot, on medium-low heat add the sesame oil. Once hot, add the onions face down (halved with skin on) and chopped garlic. Cook for about 2 mins.

Step Two: Add the chopped and peeled ginger. Cook for another 2 mins.

Step Three: Add the remaining chopped veggies into the pot except the turmeric and parsley at this point. Fill up the pot with about 4 cups of water or until the ingredients are submerged. Season with salt and pepper. Turn up the heat slightly and cover the pot with a lid. Be sure to leave the lid slightly ajar to let some steam out. Otherwise you’ll risk the pot bubbling over and that’ll be a mess you don’t want to deal with. Let it cook for 30 minutes.

Step Four: Add the peeled turmeric & parsley in now, cook for the remaining 1.5 hrs. I like to cook it for 2 hrs for maximum effect but if you only have an hour that’s fine. Once the time is over, I will ladle a few scoops of the broth into a Vitamix blender. In the blender I also add one of the pieces of turmeric, one onion (remove the skin now), some pieces of carrots, and garlic. Go ahead and turn the blender on now.

Step Five: This is what the mixture should look like once blended. Go ahead and add that mixture back to the pot. Look at that vibrant yellow!! That’s beautiful!

All there’s left to do is remove the remaining chunks of veggies and strain it into a tightly sealed container. And there you have it! Some delicious homemade broth to help your family and friends fight the nasty flu symptoms. The vitality you’ll get out of this broth is unbelievable! I mean we just kept coming back for more and more cause it’s so tasty and the body just soaked up all the nutrients. This is one of the best ways to fight any oncoming cold and ward it off. You can certainly drink this broth alone as is while hot, refrigerate it for later or add it to whatever dish you think will suit it for extra umph. Goodluck y’all, be safe and healthy.
