20 minute Balsamic – Caramelized Onions

I got this awesome idea to jazz up some left overs and I went with it! We had ground turkey from the other night and I was thinking what would go well with it, oh I KNOW! Balsamic caramelized onions!! So yummy and so so good. Traditionally caramelized onions take at least an hour but I was short on time so we had to speed it up just a bit.

Ingredients: Red onion, butter or Olive Oil, balsamic vinegar and some thyme. Of course salt & pepper! Life is nothing without salt & pepper. To my surprise when I opened the butter it was all gone so I used olive oil and it tasted delicious.

Step One: Turn the stove on medium-low heat and oil up or butter up your skillet. You will need to slice the onions, julienne style. When you cut the onion, cut it in half first then cut out the white core. Afterwards you can begin to julienne them.

Step two: Saute onions for 5 minutes then add salt and pepper. Stir maybe just once or twice. Then cook for another 10 minutes. Keep stirring every so often so the onions brown but do not burn.

Step three: Add the balsamic vinegar and cook for another 2-3 minutes. Keep stirring. Add a sprinkle of thyme and stir a little more, you should be able to smell the thyme once it heats up. Then turn off stove and remove onions from skillet.

I topped off our left overs with the dee-licious balsamic onions and some mashed up avocado. It was SO TASTY y’all! I hope you try it and let me know how it goes. Enjoy!
